Bravo. This is so layered yet concise. It captures the greyhound sensibility, a moment in time, and the inner dialogue of the budding travel writer. Makes me want to dig out my old travel journals too, and revisit my travel past.

Thank you for sharing! About six months ago I pulled out my journals from my first long road trip at 17.  Hard to believe it was 10 years ago! But Greyhound is still about the same strange venture this day in age- just took them cross country this spring.

Ah, I’m glad people still do it. I took a Greyhound from Savannah to Atlanta recently and it did seem similar. That familiar restroom disinfectant/bus exhaust smell. I did my last cross-country Greyhound trip, um, before you were born…I was 30. There may be another in my future some day. Dunno if I’ll enjoy it as much—it was all about the discovery back then.

It wouldn’t be about discovery still…but I understand what ya mean.  I did it because I was curious- usually I drive my own caravan places.

Thanks, Sophia. Your journey into America was very much your own, and I like the ending: your notes say it all. Makes me want to go back. Going to check out your blog now.
