Forget about those discount holiday packages on sale at the grocery checkout counter: Travel-retail fusion has gone upscale. The personal shoppers at Harrods, the venerable London department store, are now offering customized holiday bookings—with a low, low minimum purchase of £2,500. And the maximum? There isn’t one. Over the course of a few phony phone calls, the Times Online’s Mark Rudd took the new travel service for a test drive.

Specifically: ‘Me, the wife, and the mistress can party for my 50th with a bunch of strangers paid to like me for the evening.’
On the more serious side though, if you have money then it doesn’t sound like any of that “stuff” would be hard to get or book (rather). So, my heart doesn’t necessarily bleed for these workers at Harrods. Second thought: Wow?!? And I thought the world’s economy was still in trouble…no wonder the poorer people in world have such woes.
